Cheshire, UK UFO Video - Press Release - 7-19-00
"BRITISH UFO STUDIES CENTRE
PRESS RELEASE
International interest and great excitement has been created as
a result of the release of a video showing a UFO over Cheshire
filmed by Karl Woods on Sunday 9th July at around 1345.
The British UFO Studies Centre yesterday received some 150 calls
from around the world and offers from newspapers and magazines
for background and detailed articles. This has pushed the Centre
into the public eye at a time when something of a UFO
renaissance is taking place; sightings are coming in not only
from around the country but internationally.
The remarkable video footage taken over Cheshire has captured
the imagination of the public and they are now demanding to know
how anomalous phenomena, seemingly structured and under
intelligent control, can operate within or near busy air lanes
on approach to Manchester International airport, without the
knowledge of either civilian or military Air Traffic
Controllers. Privately, in conversation with BUFOSC
representatives, these hard-working ATC men and women admit that
they know of the existence of UFOs within restricted airspace.
The British Ministry of Defence files kept at the Public Records
Office in Kew, London, tell a similar story and indicate that
UFO reports have led to concern at the highest levels of power.
In fact, a document dated 24th June 1965, written in response to
the visit of renowned Astronomer and "father of Ufology" Dr. J
Allen Hynek, states that;
"It is our policy to play down the subject of UFOs and to avoid attaching
undue attention of publicity to it."
The document goes onto state that, as a result, parliamentary
interest in the subject had, at that time, been limited and
calls for action muted. Nevertheless, in 1979, the Earl of
Clancarty led a debate in the House of Lords on the subject.
Military commanders in Britain and abroad have indicated that
UFOs are of extreme defence significance. The history of
research within the MOD has been one of evasion and deception
according to BUFOSC's Eric Morris;
"There are files detailing the development of secret military
aircraft at the Public Records Office and plenty of material -
available to the public - showing that Defence specialists
routinely evaluated radar tapes and similar evidence of UFO
activity."
He also called for the release of all government files,
including those created in recent years;
"In Britain it takes 30 years before we are allowed to see
files. So we can only read files for 1969 at the moment. The
government is dedicated to openness but still the documents are
hidden away. If, as Ministers state, UFOs are of â˜no defence
significance then why not make the files available and allow
bona fide researchers like ourselves to access them?"
Meanwhile, UFO reports are flooding in to the newly created
National UFO Reporting Centre based at BUFOSC HQ in Northwich.
The Centre encourages members of the public concerned about UFOs
or who have a sighting or experience to report to come forward,
in confidence, and speak to a researcher.
