Mason Township Hall Addition
Ground Broken June 28, 2001
The MASON TOWNSHIP HALL, located on the corner of Kessington Road & US 12, was built in 1874-75 as District No. 5 Schoolhouse. The building was purchased in 1964 by the Mason Township Board for use as a township hall. In February 1973 the Cass County Library established the Mason-Union Branch Library in the Township Hall. In 1987 a building project restored the building's interior to its original decor and update the utilities. The addition of the meeting room & offices that had plans prepared by Hurtt-Kenrick and Associates and had been approved by the State of Michigan was eliminated from the renovation project. In 1993 the Township Board established an office in the building to house all Township public records & the Mason-Union Branch of the Cass District Library. On May 8, 2001 the Mason Township Board voted to resume with the meeting room/offices addition construction. At a Special Meeting June 14, 2001 the contracts were signed for the new addition.
That addition for the Township Offices and meeting room and its progress is offered here in a pictorial history.
