OCTOBER MEETING “RECAP” The guild meeting was held at Andy Grootendorst's shop in Coloma. Andy went through the basics of veneering and explained hot press, vacuum bag and iron veneering. He encouraged the use of ironing the veneer for a basic and functional method for the beginner. Veneering is certainly not for everyone but there are many times when the use of veneer could solve problems or add another aspect to your project. Thank you Andy for your hospitality and great evening!! Jim Ennis was a guest of the LaVanway boys; hope to see you join the guild Jim!!!! |
NOVEMBER MEETING Tom will be demonstrating his technique for making end grain cutting boards. This is a great opportunity to see a first class shop that Tom designed and built!! The November meeting will be the opportunity to vote for new Guild officers. The "jobs" in the Guild are not hard and do not take a lot of personal time. New ideas and energy are important in any organization so consider taking on one of the positions for the up-coming year. Other guild members are always willing to help out if you get in a bind so you're not flying solo at any time. Directions: Tom’s home shop is located in St. Joe at 2350 Niles Avenue. Tom lives on the corner of Niles and Kingsley. Please park on Kingsley…his shop is in the "garage" behind the house. for map |

PROJECT OF THE MONTH Project of the month for Oct. was toy blocks. Bob Bender and John DeLapa made blocks and once again John DeLapa was the lucky winner of the" Saw Dust In The Hat" $25 gift certificate to Johnson's Work Bench. Quoting John, "It pays to play". Let's give our Catalpa boy some competition the next few months! We can start with the November project being toys to donate to those less fortunate at Christmas. |
