FEBRUARY MEETING "RECAP" The 2/18/08 meeting was held at Andrews University architecture shop and hosted by Bob Bender. Bob demo'd the process involved in creating the tooling for a large domino set he made for his grandparents. His grandma was losing her eyesight so Bob made the dominos large and needed to figure out a way to put the hole pattern in the dominos accurately and quickly. Bob made fixtures and used an end mill to create the dominos. Bob is very talented when it comes to developing tooling and processes for production. Bob also gave a demo on how he cuts "lumber" to scale for the architecture student's projects. Technique is the key in this process and Bob has developed it to a science over the years. He also showed how he drills and taps holes for his zero clearance plate for the table saw. This is much easier and effective than using tape. Thanks to Bob and the architecture department at Andrews and a special thanks to students Chris (who showed is collection of unique, small boxes. Great Work!!) and Jane for helping |
