MARCH MEETING "RECAP"

The March meeting was hosted by Tom Hurst at the Ring Lardner Middle School in Niles. Tom's shop looked productive, clean and a very inviting place to work. The community is fortunate to have a teacher with Tom's skill and enthusiasm!!

The topic at the March meeting was a special program given by Ron Nelson. Al Fowler brought Ron and has known him as a neighbor for years. Ron provided a great program on dog sled racing. He and his wife have raced sled dogs for the past 15 years. Ron's humor, knowledge of the sport, experience as a wood worker and over all enthusiasm for life allowed for a great program. Sassafras was the wood of choice for many of the parts in Ron's sled, surprising many of us. A loose mortise and tenon wired together is a very strong way to connect any item that needs to flex and is subject to abuse. Thanks Ron for a great and different program!! Good luck in your new home in Minnesota!!!!

Guests included new member Larry Nelson from Coloma. Glad to have you aboard Larry!! Andy Iverson, wood shop teacher from Eau Claire, was also present. Hopefully we can talk Andy into hosting a meeting at his shop in the future. Great to see our long time member and friend Dave Draper at the meeting also!!

MFL Design had an on-line auction in Benton Harbor during the last week of March. Barry advised Guild members about the auction and it will be interesting to see what goodies members purchased at next month's meeting.

APRIL MEETING

Tues. Apr. 15, 2008

7:00 pm

Barry Young’s Shop

The April 15 meeting was scheduled for Coloma High School but due to complications had to be re-scheduled. Once again Barry Young has agreed to open his shop and host the April meeting. The topic will be Barry demonstrating spindle turning. Thanks Barry for coming through for the Guild!! Most of us know where Barry lives at 768 East Lemon Creek Road. Please park "up top" or across the road due to sometimes soggy conditions below the hill by Barry's shop.

Directions: From the North…

Take Hollywood road south to Lemon Creek road. Turn left (East) on Lemon Creek and proceed east for 1 mile. Barry's place is on the south side. Look for the barn with the red silo. Go past the house and turn on the farm lane. If you get to Lauer Road you have gone too far
